Since 1951 a lawn burial policy has been adopted for coffin burial in the northern part of the site. The unconsecrated ground in the cemetery was opened by the City of London Burial Board in June 1856, but the consecrated ground was not opened until November 1857, due to a problem over land claims. Some of these may be survivors from the tree belt that was incorporated into Haywood's scheme from the Aldersbrook estate landscape. 28 0 R
